Disable searching inside ZIP and CAB archives

Disable the Windows Search companion from looking inside Zip and Cab archives when performing a file search.

When you initiate a file search in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista, it searches for files inside ZIP and CAB archives. Most people do not want this feature, as such search cause a serious slow down if you have many ZIP or CAB files on your system.

Note: Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 do not provide an option to disable searching inside these archives. (Windows Vista has such option)

The utility discussed in this page can prevent Windows from searching inside ZIP and CAB files, whilst still maintaining Windows native ZIP / CAB support.

Note:  the file association settings are not modified in any way, and they remain intact.
